Coachella is a renowned desert community to which the surrounding valley owes its name. Founded as a 19th-century railroad town, Coachella has since become one of the fastest-growing communities in California.
Homes in Coachella tend to be single-story houses, with some multi-story dwellings available. Variants of the Spanish-revival styles are found all over the town. Craftsman and ranch styles are also present in the area’s housing market, displaying both the hues and tones of the desert and more vibrant colors. New and older model homes sit along Coachella’s avenues and cul-de-sacs. Residents walk along sidewalks shaded by California fan palms and lined with more small desert foliage.
The Coachella Valley Unified School District serves the area and has multiple public schools within the neighborhood, many of which are accessible via residential sidewalks. Many Coachella schools also sit adjacent to a local park. Skaters ride down the multi-colored ramps and rails at Dateland Park, which also features an expansive mural colorfully depicting the Coachella Valley’s history. De Oro Park visitors walk stone pathways through the landscaped greenery to a large monument commemorating political activist Cesar Chavez.
The abundance of local meat and produce markets covers residents’ grocery needs. Head to the Rancho Grande or Torres Produce markets to stock your pantry. The Augustine Band of the Cahuilla Nation runs Temalpakh Farm, which specializes in sustainable farming practices that make nutritious food accessible to the community. Grab a hot cup at Sixth Street Café or sample authentic Mexican dishes at restaurants like Mariscos El Capitan.
Coachella is most famous for the eponymous music festival that has become a cultural trendsetter since its inception. The nearby Empire Polo Club first leased the grounds for the festival in 1999 and has attracted tens of thousands of visitors to the area.
State Route 86 and 111 offer Coachella residents a straight shot into the Inland Empire while living in a thriving desert neighborhood.
